A trend we love is adding an outdoor shower to your pool area. You’ve seen them near beach houses, at spa retreats, and at some of the larger community and private pools. There is absolutely no reason you can’t have an outdoor shower in your pool area too! If you’re thinking about building an inground pool, an outdoor shower is a great add-on. You can also install an outdoor shower near your existing inground pool.

Not only are they great for rinsing off before a swim, or after a swim to wash chlorine off your skin, but they are also great for if you just finished a run, or if you got hot and sweaty walking the dog or working in the yard. And speaking of the dog, you could use the outdoor shower to bathe your dog!

Google “outdoor shower ideas” and you’ll be amazed at the variety of images you see, both on design sites and on Pinterest. You can go for the modern and sleek look, or something with a country feel, or create your own tropical rainforest. The options are limitless.

And installing an outdoor shower is a fairly simple process. There are DIY kits, but many of those just hook up to a garden hose. You may want to consider hiring a pool contractor to complete the job professionally. They’re familiar with the plumbing needs and codes. They will also ensure proper pool shower drainage so that you don’t have massive puddles on your pool deck. It’s a plus if they also do hardscaping and landscaping, depending on what you have in mind.

Don’t Forget the Outdoor Shower Enclosure

And of course, don’t forget an outdoor shower enclosure of some sort. Whether this is a full-on stall made from cedar planking, a custom tile surround, or a wall of plantings to provide privacy, again, your choices are only limited by your imagination and budget.

And don’t forget to incorporate outdoor lighting into your pool shower design and enclosure. While there may be plenty of natural light during the daytime, you’ll want to be able to use the shower in the darker evening hours as well. You will want your poolside shower to complement the rest of your pool area. Consider using similar materials, whether that is rock, wood, fencing, plantings, etc.
