Inground Pool Cost: What You Need to Know

How much does an inground pool cost? There is no easy answer to the question until you have some specifics in mind. The main variables to consider for calculating your inground pool cost include:

Keep reading to learn how each of these factors can impact your final cost for pool installation.

Pool Material: Fiberglass vs Concrete

The first thing that will affect your inground pool cost is the pool material. A fiberglass pool will cost less than a custom concrete pool. Fiberglass pools are made in a manufacturing plant and transported to your property, where the pool contractor sets it in a pre-excavated hole and does the finishing work.

By contrast, a custom concrete pool is built on-site by hand. Your materials and labor costs will be higher as a result.

In general, the base cost of pool installation of a San Juan fiberglass pool (which we install) would start at $90,000. A custom concrete pool installation would be between $95,000 and $115,000 for a base price. The cost of each type of pool will increase with the size and complexity of the pool, as well as your choices for pool decking, add-ons, and more.

Pool Size and Shape

Size matters. A smaller pool will generally cost less than a larger pool, all things being equal. Rectangular pools are less complex to manufacture or build, so they may cost less than a lagoon-style freeform pool.

Pool Location

The location of your pool can affect the overall cost as well. If it’s difficult to get heavy machinery into your yard, we have to remove a lot of trees and rocks, you have a steeply sloped yard, or excavation uncovers a water table issue, your overall cost can go up.

The best way to calculate your inground pool cost is to get estimates from multiple pool builders/pool contractors. Be sure to have them give you quotes for the same materials, size of pool, etc. so that you can accurately compare pricing. Watch out for low-ball pricing, as they may have left something out of their quote, or plan on using lower-grade materials.

Make It Exceptional. Make It Woodfield.

A custom pool installation or backyard makeover can cost more than you might think. However, setting a realistic budget and obtaining financing can be beneficial. Hiring the right pool design and installation company can help ensure the process goes smoothly while minimizing unexpected costs.
