Building an Inground Pool in a Sloped Yard

Just because you don’t have a flat yard doesn’t mean you can’t have the inground pool of your dreams. Whether you have a steeply sloped yard or an outright hill, you can get the pool paradise of your dreams. It will take more planning, more work, and a larger budget than if you had a flat yard, but it can be done.

Let’s take a look at some of the solutions that make installing an inground pool on a hill possible.

Leveling a Small Slope

If the slope of your yard is minimal, simply regrading the area will allow for your inground pool installation.

Building Retaining Walls

Retaining walls around one or more sides of your pool hold back soil and prevent erosion. With a sloped yard, retaining walls serve a very functional purpose, but they can add beauty to your pool area as well. They can also provide a ledge for extra seating, or a handy spot to place your phone and towel.

Utilizing Terracing

If you want to build an inground pool on a large hill, terracing may be your best option. With terracing, we build a series of retaining walls and level off an area at the foot of each wall, creating a stair-step effect. This gives you the opportunity for multiple gardens. Your pool can be at the top of the terraces, or at the bottom.

An Extra Option for an Inground Pool on a Hill

There is an extra feature you can easily add to a pool on a slope or hill that you might not otherwise. An infinity-edge pool makes it appear that the water has no edge. It just drops off into the horizon. This can be especially dramatic if your pool is on a hill. Your pool will look like it belongs in a resort. An infinity-edge pool will cost more, due to the added engineering involved.

What Our Clients Have to Say

(Use images with each review of that particular client project. And fill in the city next to the client names.)

Thanks to all the good folks at Woodfield Outdoors who took on a project high up on the side of a hill, that several others said couldn’t be done and created a masterpiece. We couldn’t be more impressed with what you all built here, and just as importantly, how amazing you all were to work with from design to completion. Multiple points of contact throughout, incredibly detailed craftsmanship, no detail ignored, and given the incredible market demands on builders and suppliers these days, still delivered the final result in a surprisingly speedy timeframe.
