Red, White, and Blue Party Ideas for July 4th

Once again this year, July 4th hits on a weekend. Of course, big gatherings and fireworks displays were canceled last year due to the pandemic. But this year, with reduced infection rates and vaccine availability, it’s safe to host a pool party or cookout, or more than one! We thought it would be fun to share some party ideas for July 4th to get you in the mood to celebrate!

Besides decorating with red white and blue streamers, balloons, and table wear, we went looking for some dessert and drink ideas to take the festivities one step further. We’re anxious to try out some of these ideas ourselves! We figure you already know what you’re cooking on the grill!

Delightful Desserts

A lot of desserts this time of year incorporate blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and whipped cream – it’s an easy way to achieve the red, white, and blue theme with sweet treats. Here are a few of our favorite ideas, with more ideas from Good Housekeeping:

  • Cupcake Flag with Berries and Coconut (or white frosting)
  • Uncle Sam Hat Cake
  • Red, White, and Blueberry “Pizza”
  • Mini Stars Berry Pies
  • Red, White, and Blue Boozy Slush

That last one brings us to our next category.

Colorful Drinks

July 4th can be hot and humid in Maryland, so it’s important to stay hydrated with water. But you can also have some colorful and fun adult beverages and non-alcoholic beverages available for your guests. Some of our favorites include:

  • Firecracker Cocktail
  • Red, White, and Boozy Margaritas
  • Rocket Jello Shots
  • Black Raspberry Pie Milkshakes with Black Raspberry Fudge
  • Red, White, and Blue Sangria

You can see the full list and links to recipes at Good Housekeeping.

Don’t Forget the Playlist

So for most of the holiday weekend, you’ll want to play the tunes you and your family like listening to the latest songs from your favorite artists. But you may want to add some songs specifically for the 4th of July, including:

  • Born in the USA – Bruce Springsteen (1986)
  • O.C.K. in the USA – John Mellencamp (1986)
  • Star-Spangled Banner – Jimi Hendrix (1969)
  • American Soul – U2 Featuring Kendrick Lamar (2017)
  • Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus (2009)
  • Firework – Katy Perry (2016)

There are many other songs to choose from – just add your favorites into the mix.
