The New Year is just a couple of days away. If you want to make…
Did you attend some outdoor gatherings this summer that made you jealous of the beautiful outdoor living space the hosts have? Come on, admit it. We all have a little neighbor envy from time to time. If you saw features that you would love to have in your own backyard, now is the time to start planning. Create your own backyard paradise in 2022 now.
This is especially true if you have dreams of an inground pool, outdoor kitchen, paver patio, and lush landscape design. Getting all of those projects completed in time for Memorial Day takes a lot of time and effort. There are two main reasons why starting to plan now and getting estimates is a smart idea.
Reason #1: Outdoor Living Contractors Are Not as Busy
We can tell you firsthand that we are absolutely slammed with work from March through October. This is the prime time for pool installations, patio installations, and building outdoor kitchens and other outdoor living features. In general, good outdoor living contractors are all incredibly busy during this same time period.
We take a deep breath when November gets here and the outdoor work starts to slow down a bit. You can use this to your advantage. Instead of waiting several days or even weeks to get an on-site consultation, you can usually get an appointment within a day or two.
This means you can get several estimates and choose which contractor you want to work with much more quickly than you would in the busier months. And of course, that means you get the whole project underway faster.
Reason #2: Getting the Permits and HOA Approval Takes Less Time
For many larger outdoor living projects, Maryland counties require building permits. Applying for and getting the required permits for your project can take a while. This is especially true in the spring and summer when everyone else is applying. By starting the permitting process in the winter, you beat the crowd.
And if you are part of a Homeowner’s Association (HOA), you may have heard horror stories of how long it takes to get a project approved by the Board of Directors. If even one small aspect of your design plan doesn’t meet HOA requirements, it can be back to the drawing board. And just like contractors and permit officers, the HOA board is busier in the spring and summer months reviewing plans.
And in general, an HOA board has up to 30 days to respond to or approve your project. The more complex it is, the longer the approval process will take.
So, you get a jump on everyone by starting now with the planning, permitting, and HOA approval. And if your design plan needs to change, or the materials you want to use need to change, you have time to make adjustments and still get your outdoor living project finished on time.
