Our Top Back to School Pool Party Ideas
Back to school, this year is going to be way better than it was in 2020. With more people vaccinated and mask and social distancing requirements being lifted, there is no better time to plan a party. And if you have an inground pool, you have a ready-made party pace. If you’re looking for back-to-school pool party ideas that do more than making the grade, keep reading.
Pick a Date and a Theme
You may want to consult with the parents of your children’s closest friends to work out a date that BFFs will be available, and work around that. This is also a good way to avoid conflicting part dates.
Back-to-school is a theme in and of itself, so you could stick with that. Or you could go for a tropical vacation theme or sports theme. Be sure to ask your kids what they would like the theme to be. The more involved they are in the party planning, the more they and their friends will enjoy it!
Send Out Pool Party Invitations
What invitations you come up with depends in a big way on how old your kids (and their friends) are. Even just a few years ago, you mailed out invitations or your child hand-delivered written invitations. You may still want to do that if you want to incorporate a party favor such as a beach ball into the invite.
But you can also send invitations via a variety of messaging apps. Depending on the age of your kids, they might create a video as part of the invitation. Just be sure to ask guests to RSVP so you know how much food to get.
Purchase (or make) Pool Party Decorations
Follow along with your theme. Hawaiian luau/tropical decorations are usually pretty easy to come by. If you’re doing a back-to-school theme, streamers, balloons, dishes, and more can be in the school colors. You want to get kids excited for a “normal” school year!
Furnish Fun Food and Drinks
You can again stick with a theme, or just get your kids’ favorite food and drink. And, of course, supply something the adults supervising the party will like as well. If other parents offer to bring a dish, let them! The more food and party snacks, the better.
Choose a Playlist
Your older children will be experts at creating a playlist. Just make sure you listen to it first, so you can nix songs with explicit lyrics if there will be young children at the party. If your kids are younger, you can choose songs that fit the party theme or songs by your children’s favorite artists.
If you don’t already have a waterproof Bluetooth speaker, now is a good time to get one.
Jump In!
When the big day arrives, hopefully, the weather cooperates, and everyone can jump into the pool or lounge poolside. If you have to move the party inside, it’s not the end of the world. Gathering with friends with good food, good fun, and good music is what it’s all about anyway, right?
