What Is a Beach Entry Pool, and Is It Right for You?

A beach entry pool, or zero-entry pool, is an inground pool that you can just walk into the shallow water end, much like you would walk into the water at the beach. Hence, the name.  They are becoming more and more popular for a variety of reasons. You can get a custom concrete beach entry pool or a manufactured fiberglass beach entry pool.

Woodfield Outdoors installs both types of inground pools. We are a certified dealer and installer for San Juan Fiberglass Pools and Spas. If you want a zero-entry pool, it’s important to select a pool builder with experience in beach entry pool design and installation.

Benefits of a Beach Entry Pool

Beach entry swimming pools have many benefits, not the least of which is their stunning appearance. They also have a few drawbacks. Let’s take a look at the benefits first.

Kid-Friendly

A beach entry pool is perfect for supervised young children. They can sit at the edge and play, or walk into their comfort level. Walking into the pool is not as scary as jumping in. And since the upper end of the ramp entry doubles as a tanning ledge, you can easily set up a lounge chair to be right where the action is!

Mobility Friendly

Not only is a beach entry pool cool and attractive, but the flat access without stairs makes this type of inground pool ideal for people with limited mobility to easily use the pool.

For instance, if you have arthritis, you might not want to climb a pool ladder or even walk up and downstairs to get into the pool. Or if you want to use the pool for aqua therapy for someone in a wheelchair, you can wheel them right in as they sit in their pool wheelchair. No need for an expensive (and unsightly) pool lift.

Pet Friendly

If you’d like your dogs to go swimming with you, walking into the water is the easiest and safest way for Fido or Fifi to do that. And if your pet somehow falls into the pool without you there, they can easily swim to the shallow end and walk out.

There are no confirmed statistics of how many pets drown in swimming pools each year, but we do know that it happens. In addition to an easy way out of the pool, you should also invest in a pool monitor to be alerted to anything or anyone entering your pool.

Drawbacks of a Beach Entry Pool

While we think zero-entry pools are beautiful and have some great benefits, they’re not for everyone. Here are some of the potential drawbacks:

Space Hog

Because this type of entry pool requires a gradual slope at one end, this type of inground pool requires more space than a typical pool with steps. Unless you have a larger back yard, the space issue could be a huge drawback for you.

Expense

The additional space needed can also increase the labor and materials costs of installing a beach entry pool. Depending on your budget and the size of the pool you want, you may need to opt for another style of entry.
