Unique Patio Ideas for 2021

Maryland patio season is just around the corner. Are you ready? If you go outside and take a look around, are you happy and proud of what you see? Or is it a little disappointing, and you’re thinking of making 2021 the year you bring your dream patio ideas to life? If it’s the latter, we can help. To give you some inspiration, we’re exploring some unique patio ideas for 2021 – ideas that will take your patio from cookie cutter drab to outstanding outdoor living at its finest. Ready? Let’s get started.

Paver Patio Ideas

Paver patios are bigger than ever. So are patios that mix pavers with natural stone. Last week, we went over how to choose the right patio pavers. If you missed that, you might want to check it out. This week, we’re focused more on design.

If you want to make the most of your backyard, you might want to consider a patio space where the inground pool is the main attraction, with an outdoor living room, outdoor kitchen, and outdoor dining area. This allows you to host a larger gathering, but still, keep a cozy and intimate feel where family and friends can get together in smaller groups.

Extend Your Time Outdoors

We mentioned your inground pool as a focal point. Another great focal point is an outdoor fireplace. Adding a fireplace gives you cooking options and the ability to extend your time outdoors. Host football parties well into the winter, and get outdoors earlier in the spring. The fire will keep everyone warm.

And you may want to add a fire pit as well, in another section of your yard or in a separate seating area. Young and old alike will enjoy toasting marshmallows and catching up while sitting watching the flames dance. And you don’t need to cover or store as much patio furniture if you put in some built-in seating that curves around the fire pit. Just add pillows and cushions!

Cover It Up

To add vertical interest and to add some protection from the elements to your outdoor living space, consider adding a pergola or pavilion, or both. A covered outdoor kitchen allows you and your guests to dine al fresco even if there’s a little rain.  And a pergola near or over one of your seating areas can provide shade as well as visual interest.

You Don’t Need a Flat Yard

Today’s patio designs take into account that not everyone has a flat yard. By adding stairs and retaining walls, we can create a multi-level patio that makes the most of your property. Think about adding a stone staircase to the bottom of a slope and installing patio pavers and a fire pit for a cozy seating area.

And if you have a larger slope, we can build a stone staircase and add terraced gardens for visual effect. Your possibilities are endless for unique patio ideas.
