Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe it’s 2024 already. Did you make a New…
If the past two years have taught us anything, it’s that getting outdoors is crucial to our physical health and mental well-being. Having a backyard retreat helps ensure you always have a place to get some fresh air and enjoy nature. As outdoor living contractors, we love it when we come across new outdoor living space ideas that we can share with our clients.
Sometimes it’s a brand new idea, while other times, it’s a twist on an old favorite. Let’s take a look at some of the trends for 2022:
Size Matters: Large Patio Pavers
One of the coolest outdoor living space ideas we’ve seen lately is large format patio pavers. Large concrete pavers from names like EP Henry and Belgard are becoming more and more popular. We also have clients who opt for large stone pavers.
Large format pavers, or slabs, as they are sometimes known, can be joined together closely, separated by grass, pea gravel, or separated by brick or another color and size of paver. Your options for customization are nearly endless.
One of our favorite options is the Belmont Pavers from EP Henry. With the look of Bluestone, they come in sizes ranging from 12” x 12” to 24” x 24”. Another great option is the Lafitt Rustic Slab from Belgard. Whether you go for a geometric, linear look or a more natural, randomly spaced look with your pavers, large patio pavers are a great idea.
Functionality is Critical
While clients still use their outdoor spaces for entertaining, full functionality on an everyday basis is an outdoor living space idea that is gaining traction. From a full outdoor sound system to Wi-Fi access to hidden electrical outlets to outdoor lighting, clients want to be able to use any gadget or electronics outdoors that they could use indoors.
We know several clients who use their patio space as an outdoor office in the warmer months.
Outdoor Kitchens Are Expanding
The outdoor kitchen trend shows no signs of slowing. In 2022, your options for outdoor kitchen products and designs are expanding. Grills, cabinets, storage solutions, outdoor bars, lighting, you name it. You have more choices today than ever before.
And a covered outdoor kitchen is one of the more functional outdoor living space ideas we’ve seen. A pavilion roof protects you and your guests as well as your kitchen components from rain, snow, or the harsh rays of the sun. It’s a win-win.
