And while budget is more important to some than others, it still helps to have some ballpark figures so that you can decide what type of pool you want, and get estimates (and know whether they’re in reason or not.)

Inground pool cost can vary by state. We’re going to talk about average costs in Maryland, with a focus on fiberglass pools and concrete or gunite pools, because that’s our area of expertise.  There are a wide variety of factors that can raise or lower your final cost. Let’s take a look:

Fiberglass Inground Pool Cost

In general, a fiberglass pool will cost between $35,000 and $85,000 upfront.  The actual cost will depend on a number of factors, including:

• Size and shape – bigger and more oddly shaped fiberglass pools will cost more to install.
• Coping material (concrete, pavers, brick)
• Gelcoat color
• Pool accessories such as slides, tanning ledges, etc.
• Patio size and material (pavers, porcelain tile, etc.)
• Water features, if any (waterfalls, grottos, fountains)
• Landscaping

Concrete Inground Pool Cost

A concrete inground pool is going to cost more than a fiberglass pool, because of the added labor and materials involved in installing your pool. In general, a concrete pool (also known as a gunite pool) will cost between $50,000 and $100,000 up front.

That’s a wide range for the initial cost. Several factors affect the upfront costs, including:

• The size and shape – standard rectangular pools will cost less. Custom shapes and larger pools will cost more.
• Interior finish – specialty finishes cost more.
• Waterline tile (required)
• Choice of coping material (concrete, pavers, natural stone, brick, etc.
• Additional pool features such as stairs, slides, and diving rocks
• Water features, if any (waterfalls, grottos, fountains, bubblers)
• Patio size and materials used
• Landscaping

A concrete pool is totally customizable as far as size, shape, waterline tile, and interior finish.
